Fast tablet grinding with no risk of cross contamination:
Pharmacopoeia Tests, as described in official compendia are standardized test procedures which have clearly stated limits under which compressed tablets could be accepted
The crushing and dissolving of tablets and capsules is typically an initial step prior to the analysis methods used to find the content of active ingredient
Other similar tests which use this preliminary grinding and dissolution also include: Uniformity of Weight, Uniformity of Content, Disintegration time test, Dissolution test
Challenges in the preliminary grinding and dissolution of tablets include preventing the risk of cross contamination between sample batches and the lengthy cleaning processes of mills, grinders and containers in which the tests are performed
In addition the ability to mill very small sample amounts (as little as 1 tablet) are difficult with standard laboratory batch mills
The IKA Tube Mill and Tube Mill 100 control address these challenges with its universal benchtop mill and patented disposable plastic milling chambers
The crushing of tablets and capsules can take place in a single-use milling tube with no risk of cross contamination between sample sets and no need for cleaning the grinding device
The design of the MT tube mill milling chambers allow sample processing as little as 1 gram
The Tube Mill control is a batch mill for grinding soft, fibrous, hard and brittle materials (Mohs hardness up to 5)
The transparent grinding chamber and cover facilitate observation at all times
Convenient and safe to use while assuring high safety and reproducibility to cover a broad range of applications
The ability to cool the sample with dry ice expands applications tremendously
During development of the mill, particular emphasis was placed on user safety
After grinding, a part of the sample will be analyzed
The remaining sample can either be discarded or it can be stored as a reference sample directly in the grinding chamber
In the later case, grinding chambers can be labeled and either stored in a refrigerator or in a drying room
Reference samples can be re-analyzed and traced at any time
